Firefox update

Postby kirschy » Thu Jul 07, 2011 8:07 pm

I'm not sure if we still have a lot of Firefox users on the Haisho or not, but I figured it would be worth letting folks know that Firefox 5 has come out. Looks like it's time to update things again.

I switched over recently, I already have the update... I don't report on my browser changes much because I almost never realize it myself. I do it subconsciously and might end up on Chrome eventually. Thanks for the info though Kirschy

I'm actually still on Firefox 3 'cuz I'd heard that my mouse gestures add-on wasn't compatible with 4 and I haven't bothered to see if it's been fixed yet. And I just can't live without my gestures anymore. So convenient!

I have switched over on day 1 and the only complaint I have right now is google toolbar is apparently currently not compatible with it.

EDIT: Never mind I got it working again with Add-on Compatibility Reporter

I don't report on my browser changes much because I almost never realize it myself.

I think that's how most people do it. The reason I posted a thread was because I decided to download the update (which required adding a Repository...) and found that when I checked I didn't get FF4, but FF5. I didn't know when exactly FF5 came out so I figured I'd post something letting folks know the new version was out if you're one of those folks who have automatic updates turned off.

the only complaint I have right now is google toolbar is apparently currently not compatible with it.

My only performance complaint was that I was having some stuttering with Flash (Youtube) videos in FF5. I'm not sure if that's related to Flashplayer, FF5, or the fact that I was experiencing the stuttering on Mint 11. It may be a combination, but I'm going to do some experimenting when I get time to try to iron it out.

That said, I can't say the new layout does much for me. I honestly wish browser companies would standardize their layout and then leave it the hell alone so you're not trying to figure out where they've moved something to when you upgrade.

5 came out shortly after 4. Something about simply jumping version numbers now with the updates.

I'm currently running FireFox Ver 5.0 with little to no problems.
Only thing that I'm a little urked about with it is the "Home" Button is no longer on the left side of the browser.

Check and make sure you have the latest version of the Flashplayer.
Latest version is 10.3.181.34.
Here's the support center download site.
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Also, if your using Add On's like Ad Block Plus, or NoScript.
You will need to set them up for each site you go to.
Also, when you upgraded to FF 5.0, you probably lost your old setting for the Add On's.
So you'll need to reset them up again. :(

si1vergecko mentioned "Add-on Compatibility Reporter".

But what about this Add On:

You wanna know how fast they're releasing 'em (particularly by version number)? They're already talking about Firefox 8.

As for compatibility, well, that's up to the third party who made the add-on. Although that did make me check its website, and apparently he won't be updating it anymore. So I guess I'll have to switch add-ons sometime if I want to upgrade Firefox. Every one is different and this was the one I had liked best, but I'll just have to see...

Geikou if you need mouse-gestures and wind up wanting something newer, you could always use Opera. Mouse-gestures have been a standard feature in it for years...

An option to try... http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-mak ... -versions/

The biggest thing you miss now by not upgrading to the latest versions of browsers is the html5 support, which is turning out to be quite an excellent.

An excellent what? DF you might want to finish that thought for us. I'm thinking you probably mean reason to upgrade, but I could be wrong.
